PERSONALITY: Nathaniel is a psychologist first and foremost. He is very intrigued by the human mind and has taken up a masked persona like his father in order to study the mind in the best way possible. He is very much in by intrigued by fear seconded only by pain. He feel no regret about using his fear toxin, which causes a more violent reaction then the Scarecrows, on people man or woman. One thing that separates him from his father is the fact he refuses to hurt a child, possibly because of his own daughter whom he refuses to harm.

He is a father, and a fairly good one. Any money he has is sent to his grandmother in order to help pay for the child's needs. He visits, in secret, and will do anything to keep her happy. He can be a kind person but that is normally over shadowed by his love of fear. Despite being who he is Nathaniel is frightened of rats, and blood to the point of passing out of exposed to them for a long period of time. He enjoys reading and is known to secretly visit his daughter at night and read her a bed time story.

HISTORY: Born for the sake of a cruel joke on his father Jonathon Crane wanted nothing to do with his son, after he killed the mother of his child, so
Nathaniel was raised by his maternal grandmother, who grew to hate him because of his appearance. He grew up a normal child, neglected yes, but normal all the same. He went to high school with out a problem until he was 16, when he met the mother of his daughter, Angie Beck. It started with a party and ended nine months later with a little girl name Alice Nicole Crane. Nathaniel never took his mother's name so he passed on his father's name to his daughter. He and his girlfriend, raised their daughter together the best they could until their graduation. That night on the way to the ceremony Angie was killed by shrapnel from a Batman vs. the Joker fight. Nathaniel was crushed.

Unable to look at his beautiful daughter but not willing to never see her again. He left the baby with his grandmother, knowing that she would treat the two year old properly. From there Nathaniel knew he would need money and started his life of crime. He robbed a laboratory and sold the chemical compounds on the black market. That's where he encountered his father, Jonathan Crane. They two met a few times to talk fear toxin and Scarecrow used version of the toxin on Nathaniel.

A few months after meeting his father Nathaniel decided that they best way to get money and to get back at the Batman was to become a super villain. Nathaniel became Deimos, wearing a mask like Scarecrows but with a hat, that would typically be seen on a real scarecrow when he ignores the mask. He was caught using his fear toxin on a group of gang members a year after meeting his father earning him his first stay in Arkham after being declared legally insane.
